FAQ

Questions people actually ask

If yours isn't here, email hello@dollarity.com and a human will answer.

Getting started

What do I need to sign up?

An email address and a password, or your Google or Apple account. The Free tier doesn't ask for a credit card. Connecting a bank is optional at first — you can add bills manually and link accounts whenever you're ready.

How long does setup take?

A few minutes. After you create an account, a short setup walks you through connecting a bank, confirming the bills Dollarity detects, and setting your budget basics. Most people find at least one forgotten subscription in the first five minutes.

Is there a mobile app?

Dollarity runs in your browser and is built mobile-first, so it works on your phone today. Native apps are on the roadmap.

Bank connections

How do you connect to my bank?

Through Plaid, the same connection layer used by thousands of financial apps. You authenticate with your bank on your bank's own screen. Dollarity receives read access to balances and transactions — never your login credentials.

Can Dollarity move money out of my account?

Only when you explicitly set up a bill payment and approve it. Nothing moves on its own, and account connections used purely for tracking are read-only.

What if my bank isn't supported?

You can still add bills, budgets, and debts manually, and Dollarity's calendar, coaching, and forecasting all work on manual data. Tell us which institution you need at hello@dollarity.com.

How do I disconnect an account?

From Settings, in one click. Disconnecting stops the data flow immediately.

The AI coach

What can the coach actually see?

The financial picture inside your Dollarity account — balances, bills, budgets, subscriptions, and debts. That's what makes its answers specific instead of generic. It can't see anything you haven't connected or entered.

Is this financial advice?

No. Dollarity gives you information, projections, and options based on your own numbers so you can make better decisions. It isn't a licensed financial advisor, and it won't pretend to be one.

What kinds of questions work best?

Concrete ones. "Can I afford a $900 car repair this month?" "What happens to my plan if I lose income for three months?" "Which subscription costs me the most per year?" The more it touches your real data, the more useful the answer.

Plans & billing

Is the Free tier really free?

Yes — no credit card, no trial clock. It covers one bank connection, the bill calendar and reminders, core budgeting, and subscription tracking. No tier is ever required to see your own money.

How does billing work for paid plans?

Monthly, through Stripe. Card details go to Stripe's checkout — Dollarity never stores your card number. Upgrades and downgrades are prorated automatically.

How do I cancel?

Settings → billing portal → cancel. No phone call, no retention maze. You keep paid access through the period you've already paid for, then drop to Free. Your data stays put.

Do you offer refunds?

If something went wrong, email hello@dollarity.com and we'll make it right. We'd rather fix the problem than keep a month you didn't get value from.

Households

Does everyone need their own subscription?

No. One Household or Household+ plan covers the members you invite, billed once to the plan owner. Each member signs in with their own account.

Can my partner or roommate see everything I have?

Only what's shared with the household. Personal accounts stay personal unless you add them to the shared view — which is why bill splitting works for roommates as well as couples.

What happens if someone leaves the household?

They lose access to shared data and keep their own account and personal records. Outstanding settle-up balances stay visible so you can square up.

Security & data

Do you sell my data?

No. Dollarity makes money from subscriptions. Your transactions aren't a product, and there's no advertising business quietly funded by them.

Can I use multi-factor authentication?

Yes, on any account, with recovery codes so you can get back in on your own. See the security overview for details.

What happens if I delete my account?

Your data goes with it. We don't retain a private copy for later use, beyond what the law requires us to keep.

Is Dollarity a bank?

No. Dollarity is a financial technology company; banking connections are provided by Plaid, and payments run through regulated partners. We are, however, a financial institution under GLBA — which is what puts us under federal data-safeguarding obligations.
